For two generations the iPhone Pro was titanium. This year Apple went back to aluminum. The reason is heat: aluminum moves it about twenty times better than titanium does. Inside the frame there is now a vapor chamber, a sealed pocket of water that pulls heat off the A19 Pro and spreads it through the body. The camera bar grew into a full plateau, which left room underneath for a bigger battery.
The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are the same phone at two sizes, 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch, with the Max holding the bigger battery. Most of what we see is ordinary: cracked screens, chipped plateau edges, tired batteries, broken backs. The one to take seriously is a 17 Pro that will not charge, or will not wake at all. That is usually a fault on the logic board itself, and boards are mostly repairable. We specialise in that.

The aluminum unibody is one sealed piece. That changed the way in. The back panel opens onto the wireless charging coil and nothing else. So a battery, a camera or a logic board repair all start with the display coming off. The 16 Pro was the first iPhone Pro you could open from the back. It lasted one generation. iFixit still gave the 17 Pro 7 out of 10.
Drop it and the screen cracks. On the 17 Pro the screen also has to come off for any other repair inside, so it needs a careful hand either way. Use a full display assembly. Cheap panels lose ProMotion and True Tone. If the glass is cracked but touch still works, you can wait. Once touch stops, it needs replacing anyway.
The colour chips off the sharp edge of the camera bar and bare metal shows through. Many 17 Pro owners have seen this. It comes from the way Apple finished that edge, so it is not something you caused. It is cosmetic only. Nothing behind it stops working. Bring it in if you want a second opinion, but usually there is nothing to fix.
After a year or two the battery stops lasting the day. Sometimes it swells and pushes on the screen, which you notice as the glass lifting slightly. On the 17 Pro the battery sits in a tray held by screws, so once the display is off it lifts out cleanly. One thing to check first: heavy drain for a few days after an iOS update is normal and settles by itself.
Often it is simply lint packed into the USB-C port, which we clear in minutes, so try a different cable first and please do not poke around in there with anything metal. When the fault is the port flex or a charging chip on the board, or the phone will not power on at all, most shops quote a whole new board. We repair the board itself, down to the failed part.

Because the 17 Pro only opens from the front. The aluminum body is one sealed piece, and the small glass panel on the back leads only to the wireless charging coil. So the display comes off before we can reach the battery, the cameras or the logic board. That's normal for this model, not a sign anything is wrong. It does mean the screen should be handled by someone who takes it off often, since it's the most expensive part of the phone.

Regarding the "unverified part" message: In MOST cases it goes away after completing the calibration, finally showing up as "Genuine" or "Used" part. That calibration step can be temperamental though, and Apple changes it with every iOS update, so we can't promise exactly how the note will finally read on your phone. What we do guarantee is a display that works perfectly, which is what our warranty covers.
We fit a fresh sealing gasket to help restore water resistance. Even so, there's no reliable way to test the seal afterwards, and even Apple won't commit to water resistance once a phone has been opened. If the phone is already dented or bent, resistance is reduced and can't be fully restored. We'd recommend keeping it away from liquid, and we can't take liability for liquid damage after the repair.
